Mama Onnie Lee Logan was a Traditional Alabama Midwife, who served the needs of her community during a time when Black women were not allowed to birth in emerging hospitals. She followed in a family tradition of midwifery and a spiritual calling from God. Mama Onnie used her traditional knowledge from both her indigenous and African American heritage in her midwifery services.. She is renown for her book, “Moherwit, An Alabama Midwife’s Story” which is an autobiography of her life as a midwife.
